Cyber Security degrees abroad

In today’s digital world, cyber attacks are amongst the biggest threats to national security. As such, cyber security programs have been designed to equip students with the theoretical and practical knowledge they’ll need to prevent cybercrime.

As a cyber security student, you’ll develop an in-depth understanding of how cyber systems should work, but also how they might be compromised. You’ll learn how to build secure software, safely send and store data, monitor the activity of cyberterrorists, and resolve attacks. You’ll also get to grips with the laws and ethics surrounding cyber security.

By earning your degree abroad, you’ll see how countries around the world protect themselves from hackers, viruses, and attacks. You’ll be introduced to new systems, software, and techniques, molding you into a more experienced, informed, and adaptable professional. As well as developing professionally, you’ll undergo tremendous personal growth as you travel the world and make new friends.

Cyber Security program structure

There are plenty of ways to study cyber security. Undergraduate programs are usually offered as a BSc and last a minimum of three years. However, most universities recommend that students undertake an additional 12-month placement during their studies. As such, four-year bachelor’s programs are common.

Once you’ve got your bachelor’s under your belt, you can go on to study an MSc. Master’s programs are usually completed within a year, but they can be studied on a part-time basis over two years.

If you want to achieve the highest formal degree possible, you can enroll in a PhD program. These research-based courses typically require five or six years of study.

Cyber security programs aim to provide students with a solid theoretical and practical grounding in the field. Consequently, you’ll attend a mixture of lectures, seminars, tutorials, practical workshops, and hands-on laboratories.

The content of your cyber security course will largely depend on where you choose to study. However, most programs across the globe will offer classes in these core areas:

  • Cyber threat intelligence and incident response
  • Software and security management
  • Cryptography
  • Security design principles
  • Computer law and ethics
  • Cyber defense
  • Cyber threats
  • Computer networks and systems
