SFA is a great university and I have enjoyed every moment since I came. Nacogdoches itself is really small and there are not a lot of things to do. Luckily, the university provides a lot of fun activities to do every week. There are always things going on at the university! They organize movie nights, Halloween parties, hot chocolate, and plenty more things. If you are looking for a university in a beautiful green area, surrounded by friendly people you should definitely come here. I really recommend it, my experience has been really great so far. The only negative aspect, is the transportation, I do not have a car and I fly to houston. Then I take the bus that SFA provides or one of my friends comes to pick me up.

Everything is good and they have welcoming staff in the International Office. If you ask anything, you will get assistance for it. There is a transport service which is available and you may install an android or apple app for it to get bus schedule. There is a state of the art recreational fitness center and additionally there is also a football ground, where you can watch in state live matches and it's free for students. This is huge a facility to relax and have fun.

The campus recreation has good facilities, on-campus accommodation is expensive compared to off-campus and the quality is far lower. Organizations are not super active. The cafeteria is old and the quality of food is average. Few international students.

What Stephen F. Austin State University says

  • Headshot of Heather Catton
    Heather Catton
    Heather Catton says:

Our small-town location gives international students a safe, secure, and beautiful environment to study, live, and learn about U.S. culture and traditions. Our students don't get lost in a large, overwhelming environment and have more opportunities to be connected on a personal level to other students as well as their professors.

The natural beauty of the area lends a great atmosphere to the learning environment. Most international students (and American students too) get a different flavor from what they typically think of as 'America'. We are very lucky here in East Texas to enjoy the uniqueness of our surroundings.

Our Office of International Programs offers assistance to students through their entire university experience - from applying for admission, enrolling in class, and navigating the day-to-day challenges of college life, to preparing post-graduation work experiences. The SFA Office of Career and Professional Development is an amazing resource for researching work opportunities and preparing to apply for employment (resume development, interview techniques, etc). Some of our majors, such as Forestry, have near 100% post-graduation career placement!
