Computer Information Systems degrees abroad
As a computer information systems (CIS) student, you’ll learn how to apply technology to commercial and business settings.
As well as building a solid understanding of computer science, databases, and systems analysis, classes in business and managerial communications will prepare you for workplace success. You’ll graduate with the theoretical knowledge and technical skills needed to meet the needs of modern-day companies.
Technology is a booming global industry that shows no signs of slowing down. By studying abroad, you’ll see how businesses across the world rely on the work of CIS specialists for operational efficiency. The professional connections you make and the global perspective you’ll gain will improve your employability.
Computer Information Systems program structure
At undergraduate level, you’ll study a BSc in information systems over three or four years, depending Bachelor’s degrees in computer information systems last at least three years, but most universities offer a four-year placement option. Industrial placements are valuable opportunities to put what you’ve learned into practice and explore future career prospects.
If the US is your dream study abroad destination, you’ll probably opt to major in CIS as part of your four-year undergraduate degree. After completing two years of liberal arts classes, you’ll concentrate on CIS-specific modules.
If you want to sharpen your skills in a particular strand of CIS, postgraduate qualifications are available. Master’s degrees can be studied across one or two years, with research-oriented PhDs adding a further four to six years on top.
Teaching is mainly delivered through lectures, seminars, tutorials, practical workshops, and computer laboratories. Assessment methods depend on module selections, but exams, reports, and project work are common.
Most institutions offer a range of elective modules, so customizing your degree to suit your interests is easy. However, you’ll still be required to take core units in the following areas:
- Information systems management
- Networking theory and practice
- Foundations of programming
- Web technologies
- User experience and requirements
- Systems administration and maintenance
- Mathematics for computing
- Computer security
