Agribusiness degrees abroad
Agribusiness is an area of study that combines agricultural science and business. Programs teach students how to generate profit by carefully managing the production and processing of crops and livestock.
As well as developing a solid grounding in farming techniques and practices, you’ll examine the business principles behind profitable supply chains. You’ll get to the roots of agribusiness success by exploring topics like sustainable production, economics, marketing, and quality assurance.
By earning your degree abroad, you’ll see first-hand how societies around the world depend on agribusiness for their food. You’ll encounter new farming practices, approaches, and challenges, and will recognize how they differ between climates, countries, and cultures.

Agribusiness program structure
You can study agribusiness at various undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Associate degrees normally require two years of study in which students will be introduced to the fundamental theoretical and practical aspects of agribusiness.
A bachelor’s degree in agribusiness requires at least three years of full-time study. However, most programs encourage students to complete an additional 12-month industry placement. Placements are a fantastic way to gather experience, build a professional network, and consolidate your learning.
Students planning on jetting off to the US will study for a minimum of four years. In line with the American liberal arts model, you’ll take general education classes for the first two years of your program, before specializing in agribusiness modules for the final half of your degree.
Once you’ve completed your BSc, you can enroll in a postgraduate program. A master’s degree usually takes one year of full-time study or two years of part-time study, while a PhD can last anywhere between four and seven years.
You’ll get to grips with theoretical principles by attending lectures, seminars, and tutorials. You’ll then put what you’ve learned into practice through laboratory sessions, practical workshops, and field trips.
Agribusiness programs around the world will differ depending on the climate, terrain, traditions, and technology present in your chosen country. However, most courses will introduce students to these key topics:
- Agriculture in practice
- Agricultural production systems
- Management and operations in agribusiness
- Natural resource and agriculture economics
- Agricultural marketing
- Agricultural resource analysis
- Agricultural law and policy
- Agricultural risk management
