Equine Studies degrees abroad

By taking an equine studies degree, you can turn your passion for horses into a lifelong career.

You’ll develop a sound understanding in all aspects of equine science, including anatomy, physiology, nutrition, and reproduction. As well as taking practical classes in the daily management of horses, modules in equine business will prepare you for a successful career in the industry.

Studying overseas is a fantastic chance to learn from industry and research experts across the globe. You’ll travel the world, meet new friends, and make incredible memories, all while earning credits towards your degree.

Equine Studies program structure

It’s possible to take a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in equine studies. Two-year associate and foundation degrees offer an excellent grounding in the field and prepare you for exciting jobs in the equine industry, or continued study on a bachelor’s program.

BSc degrees require at least three years of full-time study, but most universities encourage students to complete an optional placement year. This would extend your program to four years.

If you’re still eager to learn more, master’s and doctoral degrees are available. An MSc normally takes between one and two years to finish, while a PhD typically takes somewhere between four and six years.

You’ll learn through a variety of theoretical and practical teaching methods, including lectures, seminars, workshops, and lab work. You’ll also benefit from regular field trips and guest presentations from industry experts.

The exact content of your program will depend on your university and level of study. However, you’ll probably take core modules in these fundamental areas:

  • Breeding and stud management
  • Equine anatomy
  • Equine exercise physiology
  • Equine business and industry
  • Equestrian land and resource management
  • Equine nutrition
  • Animal behavior and welfare
  • Equine medicine and veterinary techniques
