Robotics degrees abroad
Robotics refers to the design, development, manufacturing, and use of automated machines. These machines are used across several settings, including healthcare, agriculture, and industry, to imitate human behaviors and improve both safety and productivity.
Robotics is a fast-growing field that blends engineering, computer science, mathematics, and design technology. You’ll learn about the theory and principles behind robotics and develop the practical application skills needed to begin a successful career in the sector.
Studying abroad is a fantastic opportunity to broaden your cultural horizons, improve your employability, and make lifelong memories. With a wider range of courses and universities to choose from, you’ll be sure to find the perfect destination for you.

Robotics program structure
You can study robotics across various levels and durations. Two-year associate degrees provide students with a comprehensive introduction into the field of robotics. They’re a useful stepping stone into entry-level employment or further study on a bachelor’s program.
Bachelor’s degrees in robotics are offered as either a BSc or a BEng. BSc programs are more theoretically-focused, whereas BEng courses involve more practical classes. Both programs are studied over a minimum of three years, but most universities will encourage students to complete an extra 12-month placement during their studies. Industry placements are an excellent way to gain work experience and network with professionals.
If you’re keen to further boost your employment prospects, you can earn a master’s degree. Some universities offer a four-year MEng program that combines the bachelor’s and master’s qualifications in one program. Or, you can study an MSc over one or two years.
For those wanting to achieve the highest formal degree possible, PhD programs in robotics are available. These research programs usually require four years of study.
Robotics programs are typically taught through lectures, seminars, tutorials, practical workshops, and laboratory sessions. This mixture of methods ensures that students develop an in-depth understanding of both the theoretical and practical aspects of robotics.
The content of robotics programs around the world will vary from university to university and country to country. However, most courses will include teaching in these key areas:
- Introduction to robotics
- Robotic systems engineering
- Computer systems design
- Robot dynamics
- Mathematics
- Kinematics
- Machine locomotion
- Programming
