Business economics program structure
Bachelor’s degrees in business economics last a minimum of three years, but many universities will give you the option of completing a 12-month placement and studying over four years. Professional placements are a great way to build industry connections and prepare for your future career.
As the home of the world’s biggest economy, the US is a popular study abroad destination for business economics majors. Students take general education classes for the first half of their four-year undergraduate course, before focusing on major-specific classes for the remaining two years.
There are plenty of postgraduate options available for students looking to take their education further. Master’s degrees can be studied over one or two years, followed by PhDs which can last anywhere between four and seven years.
Your learning schedule will mainly consist of lectures, tutorials, seminars, and workshops. Assessment methods vary from module to module, but you’ll likely encounter exams, essays, presentations, group projects, and research tasks.
Business economics programs normally have plenty of flexibility so you can take classes that match your interests and ambitions. That said, you’ll still need to get to grips with these core topics:
- Economic models and theories
- Economics research methods
- Mathematics and statistics for business economics
- Principles of microeconomics
- Principles of macroeconomics
- Contemporary issues in business economics
- Quantitative methods in economics
- Financial accounting
