Sports Management degrees abroad

Sports management is an area of study that analyzes the business principles behind today’s sports industry. It’s the ideal program for students hoping to turn their love of sports into an exciting career.

As a sports management student, you’ll build a detailed understanding of sports governance, finance, marketing, policy, and law. You’ll explore contemporary trends in sports management and consider the key challenges faced by the industry. You’ll develop the knowledge, practical tools, and research skills needed to get a headstart in this fast-paced field.

Studying abroad is one of the best ways to appreciate the scale and power of the global sports industry. It’s also an invaluable opportunity to see firsthand how the running of sport varies between countries and cultures. Alongside gaining a top-quality international education, you’ll travel the world, grow in confidence, and have the experience of a lifetime.

Sports Management program structure

At the undergraduate level, you can study sports management as a BA or BSc. Both classifications last a minimum of three years and cover largely the same content, but you’ll probably take more finance and accounting classes if you enroll in a BSc.

Some bachelor’s programs will include an additional 12-month placement during the third year of study. Placements are a terrific way to gather experience, network with professionals, and put what you’ve learned into practice.

If the US is your preferred study abroad destination, you’ll probably select sports management as your major. In the US, all bachelor’s programs require four years of full-time study. You’ll mainly attend general education classes in your first two years, before concentrating on sport-specific modules for the remainder of your program.

If you still want to learn more after completing your bachelor’s, you can pursue a research-based postgraduate qualification. A master’s degree is normally studied over one or two years, whereas a PhD usually lasts five or six years.

Sports management programs blend classroom learning with hands-on experiences. Therefore, your timetable will be structured around lectures, seminars, tutorials, workshops, practical sessions, and laboratory exercises.

The precise content of sports management programs will vary from university to university. However, most courses will address these fundamental areas:

  • Introduction to sports management
  • Sport management theories
  • Principles of sports marketing
  • Financial accounting for sport
  • The sport and leisure market
  • Sports organizations
  • Sport law
  • Managing sports events
