Admission requirements

Undergraduate academic requirements

  • North American Education System (or other 12 year System): Grade 9, 10, or 11 completion with satisfactory marks (equivalent to British Columbia 60% average or better) on academic subjects in the most recently completed year.
  • British Patterned Education System: Form 3, 4, or 5 with minimum average ‘C’ on academic subjects in the most recently completed year.
  • Other Education Systems: Equivalent of British Columbia Grade 9, 10, or 11 completion with satisfactory result (average ‘C’) on academic subjects in the most recently completed year.

English requirements

  • IELTS: 6.5 (writing score no less than 6.5)
  • CAEL: 70 (writing score no less than 70)
  • TOEFL iBT: 88 (no band less than 21)

Duolingo English Test maybe accepted from students in countries where no other English Proficiency test is available.

English proficiency waivers

  • Present minimum required scores in English 12 in British Columbia
  • Present minimum required scores in first-year English taken at another college or at a university in British Columbia, listed in the BC Transfer Guide
  • Take the Columbia College's Language & Writing Assessment (LWA)
  • Present proof of completing the most recent 4 years of full-time study in an English-speaking country and/or recognized international curriculum where English is the language of instruction and attain a minimum of a C in English 12 or approved equivalent.

Columbia College Entrance Scholarship

  • Amount: CAD$3,000
  • Requirements: Academic aptitude and a commitment to success, who are facing barriers, with an opportunity to access a higher education. Students must be a new applicant to Columbia College. Successful recipients will be selected from regions around the world where there are significant, ongoing, and systemic barriers to higher education.

Columbia College Academic Scholarships

  • Amount: CAD$2,500 per semester
  • Requirements: Scholarships are awarded primarily on the basis of academic performance in the previous semester, with consideration also given to involvement in College and community activities, as well as a personal essay.

**Gerry Brown Secondary Scholarship

  • Amount: CAD$2,500 per semester
  • Requirements: Scholarships are awarded primarily on the basis of academic performance in the previous semester, with consideration also given to involvement in College and community activities, as well as a personal essay.

Top Student Scholarship in Arts/Business and Math/Science and Computer Science

  • Amount: CAD$3,000 per semester
  • Requirements: Scholarships are awarded primarily on the basis of academic performance in the previous semester, with consideration also given to involvement in College and community activities, as well as a personal essay.

The John Helm Memorial Scholarship

  • Amount: CAD$5,000
  • Requirements: Awarded to an outstanding student in the Math/Sciences in memory of John Helm, former Director of Admissions, Vice Principal, and longtime employee of Columbia College.

The Jason Graham Memorial Scholarship

  • Amount: CAD$5,000
  • Requirements: Awarded to an outstanding student in the Social Sciences in memory of a former student of Columbia College.
