Student reviews for civil engineering in the USA
At the beginning it was quite hard for me to understand the first term due to the language barrier, and taking physics for the first time in another language was very challenging. However, I remember that the instructor understood the workload and tried to give a chance to any student in their class if they needed it. Through the time I've been here at PCC I have discovered different ways to stay on top of my tasks even though some classes were very hard due to the math assignments. A great thing about having these assignments was that we as students have the right to visit a PCC tutor and join office hours to get guidance on the problems. Therefore, I did not feel alone in the process. In addition to that, there has been a study group almost for any class which makes the learning progress a little bit more fun. Studying and paying for engineering classes being an International Student, feels quite expensive in any institution. However, I have found it very helpful applying for scholarships PCC and other institutions offer. In addition, the Emergency Funds at PCC is a great resource in order to pay tuition, school supplies, medical emergencies, or any other emergency.
When I started my masters in civil and environmental engineering, I was kind of lost and disappointed because all my undergraduate studies were in French, plus the fact I was away from home. Thanks to my advisors Dr. Beena Sukumaran and Dr. Yusuf Mehta, I got more confidence in myself and I started working harder until I finished my masters with two published peer-reviewed articles and three conference papers.
Studying at Rowan is exciting. I had some professors go out of their way to take pictures of storm water management facilities in the winter just to teach better. School fees and tuition was quite a lot as I didn’t have any institution assistance in paying my bills. The library is also a great facility for students.
