Why study in Lithuania?

As a member of the European Union, Lithuania has all the values of modern Europe and is among one of the most multilingual and educated countries in the Baltic region.

One of the southernmost Baltic states, Lithuania is becoming known as one of the hidden gems of Europe for its sheer beauty including its stunning coastline.

Where can you study in Lithuania

The main universities in Lithuania are located in the capital Vilnius and the country’s second largest city Kaunas. Both offer historic architecture and a rich culture, with plenty to see and do for international students.

On the whole, Lithuania is considered a safe country for visiting students, and it’s becoming a more popular holiday destination for tourists from Western Europe and around the world.

What is the cost of study in Lithuania?

Tuition fees in Lithuania vary depending on the university, program and level of study. For example, it could cost $2,500 a year to study a bachelor’s degree, and $8,500 a year to study a postgraduate degree such as a PhD. Fees for non-EU students can be higher, so check the exact costs with the institution you’re applying to.

The cost of living in Lithuania is more reasonable than many other countries in Europe and considerably cheaper than countries such as the United Kingdom and Germany.

Prices will vary across the country but students should expect to need a budget of between $5,000 and $10,000 per year to cover the cost of living.

What are the requirements to study in Lithuania?

Qualifications

If you want to study a bachelor’s program in Lithuania you need to have a Secondary Education Diploma, School Leaving Certificate, or an equivalent qualification. To be admitted onto a master’s program you’ll need a bachelor’s degree, usually in the same field.

Your education documents will need to be recognized in the Republic of Lithuania. Your certificates and qualifications can be evaluated by the Lithuanian Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education (CQAHE).

English language tests

All international student programs in Lithuania are offered in English. Therefore, most universities require a TOEFL or IELTS English language test score. Some universities offer their own English proficiency test as part of the application requirements.

Lithuania student visa

Students from outside the EU will need to apply for the National visa (D) as well as a temporary residence permit.

You can apply for the temporary residence permit at the Lithuanian embassy along with the National visa (D), and you must apply for both before you travel to Lithuania.

What's it like to study in Lithuania

Lithuania is where Kaunas is located. Lithuanians are some of the nicest people I have met during my life away from home. They're nice, provided that you don't confuse them for Russians, or Slavs, because they're not Russians, and they're not Slavs. They're Balts, speak Lithuanian, and they're Lithuanians, and their culture is very old and their cuisine is amazing. Try their Šaltibarščiai.

What's it like to study in Lithuania

Overall good experience. Lithuanians are bit hard. They will not mix so quickly, but my classmates are really good I don’t have any difficulty to blend with them. They help with study and after class sometimes we have enjoyable evenings.
