Culinary Arts degrees abroad
Culinary arts is a vocational degree designed to give you the technical and managerial skills you’ll need to succeed in the food industry. It’s a hands on program where you will learn a range of practical skills, and can combine elements of gastronomy, culinary science, nutrition and business.
It is the ideal course for anyone with a passion for food and has a creative mind. It’s possible to study culinary arts at bachelor’s level, and it is also commonly offered as a foundation level degree.
There are a number of great culinary arts programs you can study abroad. By choosing to go overseas, you will have a greater choice of programs and facilities than you’d see at home. You could also study in a country with a different approach to cooking and food giving you a unique new perspective.
Culinary Arts program structure
The culinary arts program content and structure you study will depend on a number of factors, including the location, the level of study and title of the program. Culinary arts is often offered with management, so these programs will include more business elements.
Many culinary arts degree programs are offered as foundation level courses, taught over two years. Some universities offer top up programs that allow you to convert a foundation qualification to a BA. Bachelor’s level programs often include elements of business and management.
Master’s level programs are also available but there are only a handful you can study. These can take between one and two years to complete, and can focus on management or innovation in culinary science.
Most culinary arts programs will involve a lot of time in a practical kitchen environment, where you’ll learn practical techniques and hone your skills. You will also be taught through lectures, seminars and some courses also include work placements. Assessment will be a mixture of practicals, written coursework and exams.
