Study abroad at Florida International University

Florida International University (FIU) is Miami's first and only public research university, offering bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. It is designated as a top tier research institution, and is one of the ten largest universities in the US.

International students can join the Global First Year at FIU, which is designed to help you transition into life in the US. It offers classes specifically tailored to your academic ability, and you’ll also get extra help and support to improve your English language skills. There are more than 55 undergraduate degrees available for Global First Year students, and career development courses you can take.

Outside the classroom there are a host of facilities you can enjoy, including a theater, museum and several concerts and festivals. The Graham Center on campus hosts student clubs, volunteering opportunities, and FIU’s sports teams compete in the NCAA Division I as the Panthers.

FIU’s main campus spans 342 acres. It’s home to many of FIU’s most recognized school and colleges, as well as Ocean Bank and Convocation Center and Riccardo Silva Stadium. Life at Florida International University

FIU has a large and diverse community of more than 55,000 students, including international students from 142 countries.

As an international student on the Global First Year program, you’ll receive dedicated help and support throughout your time at FIU. You will live and learn alongside other international students, and you will even be picked up from the airport on your first day to make your arrival as easy as possible.

There are also on-campus Student Health Services, which offer a number of opportunities to help you maintain a healthy mind and body. The Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) can help you with any personal, academic or career concerns you might have.

All Global First Year students live on campus, and are assigned to one of three halls on Modesto Maidique Campus. All residence halls offer utilities (included in rent), air-conditioning, Wi-Fi and cable TV access, laundry rooms and student lounges where you can relax or study.
