Aeronautical Engineering degrees abroad

Aeronautical engineering is a discipline that focuses on the research, design, construction, and maintenance of aircraft. You’ll graduate with the theoretical knowledge and technical expertise needed to make your career soar.

You’ll develop a solid grounding in engineering fundamentals, like thermodynamics and fluid mechanics, before applying them to aircraft. You’ll trace the evolution of flying machines throughout history, and get to grips with the latest technologies and discoveries in the industry.

Studying abroad will take your employability to new heights. You’ll learn how to collaborate with people from different countries and communicate across language barriers. You’ll also build an impressive professional network that’s sure to catch the attention of employers.

Aeronautical Engineering program structure

BEng degrees require three years of full-time study, or four years if you complete an industrial placement. Sandwich years are a fantastic chance to sharpen your professional skills and gain hands-on experience.

It’s also possible to study a four-year integrated master’s program known as an MEng. The first half of your course will be identical to the BEng program, but you’ll dive into more specialist and technical modules during your final two years.

If the integrated course isn’t for you, you can pursue a separate MSc over one or two years. If you want to take your education one step further, doctorate degrees are available. A PhD usually takes between three and six years to finish.

Your timetable will mainly consist of lectures, laboratories, tutorials, and design workshops. You’ll also get to go on interesting field trips and work on full-scale builds.

Although every program will be slightly different, here are some of the core topics you’ll likely cover:

  • Thermofluids
  • Introduction to aircraft design
  • Aerodynamics
  • Mechanics of flight
  • Engineering mathematics
  • Engineering materials
  • Aircraft systems and performance
  • Manufacturing, technology, and management
