Study abroad at the University of West Alabama

The University of West Alabama (UWA) is a publicly funded university located in the southeastern United States. Their 600 acre campus is located in the city of Livingston, and contains 60 acre lake. The campus is within travelling distance of New Orleans, Memphis, Nashville, Atlanta, and the Gulf Coast beaches.

The University offers a wide range of academic degrees at undergraduate and graduate levels, with 90 majors and minors available. UWA is made up of six colleges and divisions, including business and technology, education, liberal arts, natural sciences and mathematics, nursing, and graduate studies.

All freshmen live in halls of residence during their first year to help them settle in to life at UWA. On campus there are a range of student clubs and organizations you can join, and the University’s athletics teams compete in a number of sports including baseball, basketball, cross country, soccer, and rodeo among others.

    The University has complete facilities, well-equipped accommodation. Even though small, the school has students from diverse backgrounds so it provides great chances to socialize with the locals and people around the world. No public transportation here so it would be the best to own one.

Undergraduate Scholarships

International Talent Scholarship

  • Amount: USD$9,300 per year (USD$4,650 per semester)
  • Requirements: This scholarship is offered for undergraduate on-campus students only. It is offered for 3 specific areas. Once students submitted applications to UWA and get admitted, they can apply the International Talent Scholarship at

Trustee Academic Awards

  • Amount: Scholarships range from $2,000 to $10,000 per year and are renewable for up to four academic years with the maintenance of a minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • Requirements: Awards are made to entering freshmen (or transfers with less than 24 credit hours) with a 21 or higher ACT/ 1060 or higher SAT or 3.0 GPA. On-campus residency is required for two years to maintain the full value of Trustee scholarships.
  • Tiger Achievement Award 21-22 ACT / 1060- 1120 SAT or 3.00-3.24 GPA USD$2,000 per year
  • Counselor's Award 23-24 ACT / 1130- 1190 SAT or 3.25-3.74 GPA USD$3,000 per year
  • Director's Award 25-26 ACT / 1200- 1250 SAT or 3.75-4.0+ GPA USD$4,000 per year
  • Dean's Award 27-28 ACT / 1260- 1320 SAT USD$5,000 per year
  • President's Award 29-30 ACT / 1330- 1380 SAT USD$7,000 per year
  • Trustee Excellence Award 31-32 ACT / 1390- 1440 SAT USD$10,000 per year
  • Trustee Superior Award 33-36 ACT / 1450- 1600 SAT USD$12,000 per year

Graduate Scholarships

Graduate Student Scholarship

  • Amount: USD$1000 per semester scholarship for up to two semesters.
  • Requirements: For first-time entering graduate students studying at least one full semester. The number of scholarships is based on the availability of funding, but a maximum of two (2) can be awarded. Potential graduate assistantship opportunities may be available depending on the need of the department.
