What the University of North Carolina Wilmington says about their program:
"While the criminal justice system includes the police, courts and corrections, our research and teaching explore the broader social context within which the criminal justice system exists.
The justice system has developed into a major social institution in modern American society. It consists of over 60,000 local, state and federal agencies with nearly 2 million employees at an annual cost of more than $145 billion.
Choose Your Degree Program
This program offers two pathways to degree completion. One is designed for main-campus students who are pursuing a bachelor's degree in criminology. The other is offered in an online, traditional format for students wishing to complete their degree online. Online and main campus programs share the same faculty, with online classes including a mix of online and main campus students, leading to an engaging and challenging learning environment. Although not required, students in the online program have typically earned an Associate’s degree, or similar number of credits, prior to enrolling.
Choose Your Concentration
Depending on the concentration selected, Criminology, Criminal Justice, or Public Criminology, core courses include Introduction to Criminal Justice, Introduction to Sociology, Criminology, Methods of Social Research, Data Analysis, Criminological Theory, and a Senior Seminar.
In addition, students choose from among a host of electives such as Victimology, White Collar Crime, Collective Violence, Restorative Justice, Racialization and the Criminal Justice System, Police in Society, Criminal Courts, and Corrections."
A strong academic record and English proficiency are the primary factors used in evaluating an international first-year applicant's eligibility for admission.
To be considered for admission to UNCW, first-year applicants must:
Please note that scores older than two (2) years will not be accepted.
English is the applicant's native language: List of countries that students are exempt of an English examination: Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Botswana, Canada (all provinces, except Quebec), Fiji, Gambia, Ghana, Grenada, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Kenya, Kiribati, Liberia, Malta, Marshall Island, Mauritius, Micronesia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda, United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales), Zambia, Zimbabwe
Please keep in mind that while GRE/GMAT/MAT are not required for all graduate applicants, it is recommended for applicants with an overall cumulative bachelor’s GPA of less than 3.0.
Financing a UNCW education may seem like a challenging responsibility, so the University tries to be accessible to all who are granted admission. UNCW meets this through need-blind admissions and through financial aid.
Financial assistance from UNCW for international students is extremely limited, since the out-of-state tuition at UNCW is lower than at many comparable institutions. As such, it is urged that international students look for outside sources of funding to help lower costs.
