Where can you study in Luxembourg

Most of Luxembourg’s universities are located in the country’s capital, Luxembourg City. Luxembourg C ity combines fascinating historical and cultural sites with student-friendly amenities like restaurants, shops, bars, and clubs. Outside of the capital, the south-western town of Differdange is another student hotspot. Set against the picturesque backdrop of the Chier river valley, Differdange has all of the conveniences of a big city without losing its small-town charm.

What is the cost of study in Luxembourg?

Luxembourg’s only public university, the University of Luxembourg, charges no tuition fees for domestic or international students. Students are only required to pay an enrollment fee of between €200 and €400 at the beginning of each semester. Private schools and universities are more expensive. Fees are normally charged monthly and will depend on your specific program, but the overall cost of a bachelor’s degree can reach up to €30,000.

It’s fairly expensive to live in Luxembourg, but living costs are still cheaper than in other European destinations like Switzerland, Denmark, or Norway. Your living costs will vary depending on the type of housing you choose, its location, and how much you spend on other things like food and hobbies, but it’s estimated that you will probably need a monthly budget of around €1,120.

What are the requirements to study in Luxembourg?

Qualifications

To study in Luxembourg, you’ll need to have completed secondary education in your home country and achieve the final grades required by your chosen university. Your secondary school certificate must be approved and recognized by the country’s ministry of national education.

You might also be asked to complete additional entrance exams for specific courses and universities. To enroll in a master’s program, you must have completed a bachelor’s degree.

English language tests

Before gaining a university place in Luxembourg, you’ll probably need to demonstrate a high level of understanding in English, German, or French. Some universities will have their own tests, but most will accept the TOEFL or IELTS qualifications.

Luxembourg student visa

If you’re an EU citizen, or come from Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, or Switzerland, you can study in Luxembourg without needing a student visa.

Non-EU students who plan on studying in Luxembourg for more than 90 days need to gain a student visa (Type D). To do this, you must have accepted a place at a university recognized by the Luxembourgian higher educational institute. From here, you’ll be granted a temporary authorization to stay, before finally securing your visa.

It’s important to remember that you must receive your visa before you can begin studying in Luxembourg.
