Child Psychology degrees abroad

Child psychology aims to better understand why young people think and behave the way they do. Programs often focus on child development, how children grow and mature differently, and what issues and challenges young people face today.

Studying child psychology abroad is a great way to broaden your horizons and experience how a different country approaches the subject. There are many child psychology degrees offered at universities across the world, so you’ll have a huge range of programs to choose from.

If you have a passion for understanding how the human mind works, and want to help make a positive difference to the lives and development of young people, this could be the perfect program for you.

Child Psychology program structure

Psychology programs that focus on the issues of children and young people are offered under several different names, including child psychology, psychology and child development, childhood psychology, or psychology and childhood studies.

The name of the program will give you a good indication of what the focus of the program content will be, but it’s worth remembering that all universities will offer their own unique curriculum.

Most programs will be made up of lectures and small group seminars, with a research project making up a large part of the final year.

At undergraduate level you can study a bachelor’s as a BA or BSc, depending on the focus of the program. For example, programs that focus on childhood studies may award a BA, and those that are more psychology based will award a BSc.They usually take three or four years to complete depending on the country you are studying in.

As a graduate you can study for a master’s as an MA or MSc, and studying a separate master’s will usually take between one and two years.

Here’s some of the main themes and modules you’ll find on a child psychology program:
