Medical technology programs equip students with the theoretical and practical skills needed to perform laboratory tests on human specimens.

You’ll get to grips with several pieces of medical equipment, and use them to investigate bodily tissues and fluids. You’ll learn how to conduct tests that are essential for detecting, diagnosing, treating, and preventing human diseases.

Studying overseas is an unbeatable opportunity to learn from international experts. You’ll be at the forefront of new developments, and gain an appreciation for the importance of technology in the global management of health conditions.

Medical technology program structure

Bachelor’s degrees in medical technology take three or four years to complete, depending on where you study. Most programs include two or three years of coursework, followed by at least 12 months of clinical rotations.

Work placements are great for developing your professional skills and applying what you’ve learned to real-world settings.

Once you’ve earned your bachelor’s degree, you can go on to study for a postgraduate qualification. Master’s degrees can be studied over one or two years, while doctorate programs typically take between four and six years.

You’ll benefit from a variety of practical and theoretical teaching methods, including lectures, labs, workshops, and seminars. The content of medical technology programs differs from institution to institution, but here are some of the core topics you’ll address:

  • Health information systems for medical technology
  • Med-tech laws and bioethics
  • Laboratory management
  • Inorganic and organic chemistry
  • Biostatistics and epidemiology
  • Principles of biology
  • Instrumental methods of analysis
