Student reviews for aviation in the UK
The lecture quality has been very questionable for a university of this size and reputation. The quality of my education has definitely been hampered by organisational issues from the School of Aviation which caused 3 key lecturers of my course to move on to other institutions. The first lecturer left only a few weeks before my course was due to start and caused the greatest disruption as it was the course leader. Two more lecturers followed 3 months later owing to the ongoing dispute they had with the head of school. The university was forced to find replacements quickly and failed to find replacements which could contend with the experience and depth of knowledge in the aviation industry that the outgoing lecturers had. The modules that were taught by them were taught off the cuff and there was no thorough preparation and understanding from our lecturers as they were put on the spot. There are some senior lecturers on the course who have a wealth of industry experience and provided quality modules which have somewhat made up for the skills shortage of the course. The academic workload imposed by the university has been fair as you only undertake 3 modules a semester with the exception of the third year where you will undertake either a dissertation or business project in addition. The due dates for assignments are staggered to ensure you are not overloaded too.
