Tell us about studying earth sciences in Canada

I’m in Bachelors of Environmental Science (Earth Science Major). I really wanted to study in this program because I wanted to be in both environmental science and earth science. I’m very glad I found Lakehead University as it offered the program I wanted. The tuition is reasonable compared to other Universities in Canada. However, being in a country that is three times more expensive does have its challenges. Lakehead University prides itself on having small class sizes. Having small sized classes is beneficial as it is more inclusive and the Professors and the Teaching Assistant divides their attention much easier than a large classroom. The first lecture is usually dedicated to discussing the course structure. The course structure of all the classes I’ve been in is fair. The Professors are also fair in their assessment. With a properly planned out semester schedule, the workload can be balanced out. If it’s a heavy workload class, the professors are understanding and with proper reasoning, there’s room for leniency. The online library is a good resource for paid scientific papers. There’s also a Academic Support in the library for help in classes, papers and assignments. The Professors are always the greatest resource, they are very approachable and friendly, you don’t have to worry about any judgement.
