By studying a degree in quantity surveying, you’ll learn all about the financial management of construction projects, including the concept, design, build and maintenance. It’s possible to study quantity surveying abroad in a number of countries like the UK, South Africa and Malaysia. Most programs will be accredited by that country’s governing body, for example, programs accredited by the RICS (Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors) allow you to work in the UK, but may not let you work in other countries.

You can study quantity surveying as a diploma, certificate, bachelor’s or master’s degree. Which option is right for you will depend on your previous education and career aspirations. Bachelor’s are available as a BSc and are usually taught over three or four years, or you can study an MSc in quantity surveying over two years.

Many bachelor’s programs offer an internship year, sometimes referred to as a sandwich year, which means you get to work in the industry. You’ll be able to put what you’ve learned into practice while earning a wage and gaining valuable experience.
