The School of Theatre and Dance offers students the opportunity to pursue their passion for becoming a professional artist with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in theatre. The degree is appropriate preparation for those planning to seek admission to a graduate training program or going into a professional position, and the curriculum provides holistic training in all aspects of theatre arts.

Since stage managers work closely with actors, directors, designers and technicians, students in this concentration take a wide variety of courses to familiarize themselves with all these sub-disciplines. This combination of experience in all of the theatre fields provides our students with intensive preparation for professional work as stage managers.

Undergraduate academic requirements

Postgraduate academic requirements

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Generally, all applicants must have an overall undergraduate grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. Minimum GPA requirements vary depending on your academic major.

Funding

Office of International Programs Scholarship This scholarship is awarded annually to students who will contribute to the increased diversity for international representation at SFA. Students who receive the OIP Scholarship are eligible for Texas resident tuition rates, which cost approximately $4,500 less per semester.

    Undergraduate students: 2.75 GPA. Graduate students: 3.25 GPA. Student whose native language is not English, who has lived in a country other than the United States for a period of five years or more or a student who has foreign or dual citizenship recognized by the foreign country and not by the United States.

Mexico out-of-state tuition waiver program As a result of the North American Free Trade Agreement, two students from Mexico per 1,000 students enrolled at SFA are eligible to pay in-state tuition and fees (with 12,000 students at SFA, 24 students from Mexico would be entitled to receive this tuition waiver). Students accepted into this financial aid program must sign a financial need statement.
