The Department of Criminal Justice offers an undergraduate degree designed for the development of knowledge and understanding of practices, criminological theory, and concepts of the criminal justice system. Through the examination of crime prevention, forensic science and investigation, corrections and community-based programs, equity and diversity, and impact of victimization students will be provided with a general understanding of the issues facing the criminal and juvenile justice systems. This major will prepare students to be leaders for positive change in the community along with careers in law enforcement, corrections, victim advocacy, law, and community-based programs. Many local, state, federal and private agencies employ Cal State East Bay criminal justice graduates. Senior majors may qualify for internship placement in criminal justice agencies throughout the Bay Area.

English proficiency waivers
Undergraduate TOEFL or IELTS can be waived for applicants who meet English proficiency by coursework as follows:
- Transferred from a U.S. college with 60 or more semester units with a minimum grade point average of 2.4, and have completed a transfer course in each of the following general education areas with a grade of 2.0 or better
English composition, speech, critical thinking, and mathematics.
Postgraduate
- TOEFL or IELTS can be waived for applicants who received a bachelor’s degree or higher from a U.S. college or university, or an international college or university OR demonstrated 3 years of full-time academic study at a post-secondary level in a country where the language of instruction was English as accepted by Cal State East Bay.
