Please note: Video Game Design & Development applicants need to have completed a Grade 11 math course or math camp. Grade 11 courses in physics and computers/digital media are recommended.

Film Production

  • Movie Critique (300-500 words) Assess a film’s strengths and weaknesses. Consider its direction, acting, lighting, editing, effects, and overall entertainment value. There are no right or wrong answers, just your take on what makes a film work or not
  • Storyboard. Develop a storyboard based on your original idea. It may include dialogue and direction. We will be assessing your ability to put single visual frames into an order that tells a story, not your drawing skills. Feel free to draw the images yourself or use storyboard software. Your storyboard will be returned in the 3rd week of classes.

Acting for Film, TV and the Theatre

  • 1 photograph of yourself. The photograph can be a photo taken from your phone or a picture used on social media. A professional head shot is not required
  • A 1-page essay describing your story, why you want to be an actor, and why you would like to study at Toronto Film School

Writing for Film & TV

  • Journal Entries (no more than two pages)

Graphic Design & Interactive Media

  • Submit a 300–500 word essay on why you’re interested in a career in the graphic design industry, and your career goals. Tell us what aspects of the graphic design industry interest you. Please include related hobbies or relevant work

Video Game Design & Animation

  • Submit a 300-500 word essay on why you want to attend Toronto Film School and your career goals for the video game industry. We’ll be assessing your overall understanding of the industry, and how you envision building a gaming career

BIPOC Creative Achievement Award

  • Toronto Film School in partnership with BMO is proud to contribute to the diversity of Canada’s creative industry workforce through this exciting new award that alleviates financial barriers for Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour (BIPOC) creatives. Every quarter, one student—currently enrolled full time in any of our on-campus programs—will be selected to receive tuition credits valued at $1,250.

Creative Success Award

  • Designed for Toronto Film School Video Game Design & Animation and Video Game Design & Development students who are in their first term. This award is dedicated to the memory of Kurt Huhn, a 2019 Video Game Design & Development program graduate. This award honours attributes that we admired in Kurt and seek to recognize in his fellow students. This unique award will not be judged on academic merit. Rather, the award will be given to a current full-time gaming student who demonstrates passion, potential and creativity in their studies. Every quarter, one recipient will be selected to receive $2500 in tuition credits.
