Founded 140 years ago, Duquesne University is the only Spiritan institution of higher education in the United States.

DUQ is made up of nine schools that combine to offer 165 undergraduate and postgraduate programs. These programs are led by passionate and award-winning faculty who have been ranked amongst the most productive in the nation (The Chronicle of Higher Education, 2019).

DUQ is a picturesque campus with plenty of green space, fantastic views, and excellent facilities. The University has an active student population that runs over 250 organizations, ranging from sport to volunteering. Exploring these clubs is a great way to meet people with similar interests.

Fees and funding

Funding

Undergraduate

Libermann Scholarship International students who are accepted to Duquesne qualify for the Libermann Scholarship. Accepted students are automatically considered for the scholarship and do not need to apply.

  • Amount

    From $9,000 to $26,000 per academic year. It is renewable for four years/eight semesters of study.

  • Requirements

    This is a merit-based scholarship based on your academic performance. The scholarship committee will look at your entire application and supporting documents to determine your award amount.

Talent Scholarships: Every year, The School of Music recognizes talent by awarding scholarships based upon an audition.

Athletic Scholarships: Every year, The Athletics Department awards scholarships for both men's and women's NCAA sports.

Clergy Discount: Members of the clergy are given partial tuition remission on tuition for most programs, and Spiritans are given special funding opportunities.

Graduate Assistantships

  • Assistantships are granted to graduate students based on their academic performance
  • Students are required to submit GRE/GMAT scores for consideration. The amount of the assistantships depends on the applicant's scores in these tests.
  • All assistantship awards are determined by the individual graduate schools

Life at Duquesne University

The University’s center for global engagement works closely with all international students. You’ll be supported through your entire DUQ journey by professional staff who can help with visa concerns, housing, educational assistance, and cultural adjustment.

As well as the plentiful recreational clubs on offer, you’ll be invited to join over 25 cultural and religious student organizations. The University also has an international events and activities calendar.

All first-year and second-year DUQ students live on campus in the University’s halls of residence. If you decide to live off-campus after two years, you’ll find that housing is relatively inexpensive compared to other major US cities.
