The Sound Recording Technology program prepares you for a career in the audio industry as a sound engineer. As a School of Music student, you are required to take a standard sequence of music courses, but the majority of the courses you take will provide extensive training in contemporary music technology. Recording classes and practicum sessions take place at Studio DePaul, a digital Pro Tools facility with surround sound and digital video capabilities, as well as commercial studios off-campus.

Undergraduate academic requirements

  • Official high school transcripts with a GPA of 2.75

Postgraduate academic requirements

  • Each graduate program establishes its own application and admission standards, and deadlines. Pathway GPA requires a 2.3 to 2.75 GPA; Direct Entry requires a 2.5 to 4.0 GPA

English proficiency

Undergraduate

  • TOEFL 80 on the IBT TOEFL with no subsection lower than 17 or IELTS Academic 6.5

Graduate

  • TOEFL score of 80 (ibt) with all section scores at 17 or higher, or an IELTS score of 6.5, or a Duolingo English Test score of 115 and above, or a Pearson Test of English (PTE) score of 53.

Global Gateway Program Scholarships

Undergraduates are eligible for multiple scholarships when they apply to DePaul University’s Global Gateway Program.

For level GGP (3-, 4-, or 5-Quarter)

- **Amount:** US$5,000 to US$15,000 per year - **Requirements:** $9,000 for 3.0 to 3.49 GPA / $12,000 for 3.5 to 4.0 GPA. Scholarships automatically renewable for 3 years, provided student maintains good academic standing (2.0 GPA).

For Direct Admission

- **Amount:** US$15,000 to US$24,000 per year - **Requirements:** Scholarships automatically renewable for 3 years, provided student maintains good academic standing (2.0 GPA).
