What Princeton University says about their program:
Sociology is an undergraduate programme at Princeton University. The Department of Sociology offers a rigorous and distinctive undergraduate major for students interested with the social dimensions of politics, culture, economics, history, psychology, and population dynamics. Princeton sociology prides itself on offering sustained personal engagement between students and faculty. Our commitment to an individually engaging intellectual experience shapes the character of undergraduate advising, research mentorship, and the major more broadly.
As a department we believe that the best sociology both measures the world and enters it. It refuses to believe that numbers alone tell the truth, or that stories are sufficient for understanding. Sociology is the study of the forces that shape how people actually live: markets, politics, culture, law, cities, science, technology, organizations, race, family, migration, gender, sexuality, health, and power. At Princeton, students learn to study those forces with a wide range of methods: fieldwork, historical & archival research, interviews, demographic analysis, and computational tools. The most important questions about human life require answers grounded in more than one approach. Princeton sociology teaches you how to understand both the numbers and the story, and pushes you to find answers that matter beyond the classroom.
