English proficiency

  • English proficiency is required if English is not your primary language.
  • Accepted options include TOEFL iBT, IELTS and the Duolingo English Test.
  • Emory recommends a TOEFL iBT score of 100 on the previous 0–120 scale, an IELTS overall score of 7.5 or a Duolingo score typically above 130.

English proficiency waivers

  • You may demonstrate English proficiency with a 700 or higher SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing score.
  • You may demonstrate English proficiency with a 30 or higher ACT English score.
  • You may qualify if you spent the most recent four years at a school where English was the language of instruction for all academic subjects except world language courses.
  • If you do not meet one of these criteria, you must submit TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo results.
