  • A Secondary School Report is required, comprising the high school transcript, the school profile and a counselor letter of recommendation submitted by the applicant's high school
  • A Midyear School Report is required

    a transcript submitted by the high school including grades from the first trimester or semester of the final year of high school

Essays and statements

  • The Georgetown Writing Supplement is required

    two short essays of 250 words each and two long essays of 650 and 500 words

  • One short essay must discuss the significance to the applicant of the school or summer activity in which they have been most involved (250 words)
  • One short essay must describe an experience of interacting with someone holding a different viewpoint, and what the applicant learned from it (250 words)
  • The 650-word essay is a personal or creative essay reflecting on the applicant's personal background and individual experiences, skills and talents
  • The 500-word school-specific essay asks applicants to describe their interest in studying in the College of Arts & Sciences; applicants interested in the sciences, mathematics or languages are encouraged to make specific reference to their choice of major

Recommendations

  • Two letters of recommendation are required

    one from a school counselor and one from a teacher

  • A second teacher recommendation may also be submitted (optional)
  • Teacher recommendations should come from instructors who have taught the applicant in a core academic subject - English, math, science, social studies/history, or world language - preferably within the last two years of high school

Selection

  • An alumni interview is part of the first-year application process; interviews are assigned as applications are received and applicants are required to complete the interview when it is assigned
  • An evaluative report from the alumni interview is submitted and becomes part of the applicant's admissions file

Tests and examinations

  • Georgetown requires submission of either SAT or ACT scores; at least one full SAT or ACT must be submitted and Georgetown does not accept superscores
  • Only the Verbal (EBRW) and Math portions of the SAT are considered, and the writing portion of the ACT is not considered
  • Submission of AP examination scores is highly recommended for students who have taken them (optional)
