Awarded to newly admitted first-time and transfer undergraduate international students with demonstrated academic achievement. Starts at approximately $3,000 per year and is renewable for up to five years or until a bachelor's degree is completed, whichever comes first. All newly admitted international undergraduates are automatically considered after admission (requires full-time enrollment of at least 12 credit hours; applies to on-campus courses only). This is explicitly UNO's flagship merit award for international undergraduates.
Awarded annually to an undergraduate international student from Shizuoka City, Japan, nominated by the SHARE organization, in honor of Yutaka Makino, a longtime advocate for international exchange. Covers the difference between resident and non-resident tuition rates and is renewable through graduation for degree-seeking students (minimum 3.0 GPA and a volunteer-hours commitment apply). Restricted to students from a specific overseas city, confirming it is an international-student award.
A one-time, non-renewable award for newly admitted degree-seeking undergraduate students who are high school graduates from Asia, applied for through UNO's scholarship portal (unomaha.academicworks.com) with deadlines of April 1 for fall entry and November 1 for spring entry. Because eligibility is limited to students graduating from high schools in Asia, it is specifically targeted at international undergraduates.
A one-time, non-renewable award open to citizens or permanent residents of Commonwealth countries studying as undergraduates at UNO. As it is restricted to students holding citizenship/residency in Commonwealth nations rather than the US, it is available only to international students; interested applicants should contact the International Programs office ([email protected]) for full details and amount.
A $1,000 award for students experiencing financial hardship who completed UNO's Intensive English Program (IEP) and are pursuing full-time undergraduate studies at UNO, with a minimum 3.0 GPA required. Because eligibility requires prior enrollment in the IEP - a program serving non-native English speakers coming to UNO from abroad - this award is targeted at international undergraduates.
Provides financial support to undergraduate, graduate, or non-degree students whose lives have been affected by past or current events in Tajikistan, regardless of nationality. It is a one-time, non-renewable award; eligible students see it appear under "Other Recommended Opportunities" after logging into the scholarship portal with their UNO NetID. Because it is explicitly aimed at students connected to Tajikistan and open regardless of nationality, it serves international undergraduates.
