The BS in Family and Consumer Sciences provides breadth among the disciplines of Family and Consumer Sciences, drawing from Nutrition and Food, Fashion Merchandising and Management and Family Studies and Human Development. Graduates are prepared to enter the Single Subject Teaching Credential Program required to teach Family and Consumer Sciences/Home Economics in middle and high schools. Completion of the degree meets the single subject content requirement for a subsequent teaching credential with a waiver of the CSET (California Subject Examinations for Teachers). For students who want to earn their teaching credential from Sacramento State, it is possible to finish the prerequisite courses while completing this degree to avoid additional out of pocket tuition and fees. Those who have graduated from an accredited secondary (high school) or four-year U.S. college or university (obtained an undergraduate an/or graduate degree) where English is the primary language of instruction or who come from countries where English is the primary language need not submit an English language proficiency test.

A limited number of non-resident tuition fee waivers awarded each year by Sacramento State's International Programs and Global Engagement office to high-achieving F-1/J-1 visa international students. Waivers are granted in one-unit increments, each reducing tuition by $444 per unit. It is open to both undergraduate and graduate international students enrolled full time (minimum 12 units for undergraduates) in a Sacramento State degree program, with a minimum 3.3 GPA and demonstrated financial need; government-sponsored students, exchange students, and non-degree students are not eligible. Because eligibility is explicitly restricted to F-1/J-1 international students (as opposed to US citizens/residents), and undergraduates are named as eligible, this qualifies as an award open to international undergraduate students.
