​The Chinese Studies program focuses on developing your ability to speak Chinese and understand Chinese culture. Twenty percent of the global population speaks Chinese, making it the most widely used language in the world. Having the ability to speak and understand Chinese will make you a marketable candidate in a variety of professional fields, such as business, consulting or politics. Participate in one of DePaul’s Study Abroad programs in Beijing, Hong Kong or Shanghai where you’ll study and live in China for an extended period of time and experience the Chinese language and culture first-hand.

  • Official high school transcripts with a GPA of 2.75

Postgraduate academic requirements

  • Each graduate program establishes its own application and admission standards, and deadlines. Pathway GPA requires a 2.3 to 2.75 GPA; Direct Entry requires a 2.5 to 4.0 GPA

English proficiency

Undergraduate

  • TOEFL 80 on the IBT TOEFL with no subsection lower than 17 or IELTS Academic 6.5

Graduate

  • TOEFL score of 80 (ibt) with all section scores at 17 or higher, or an IELTS score of 6.5, or a Duolingo English Test score of 115 and above, or a Pearson Test of English (PTE) score of 53.

Scholarships at DePaul University

  • Global DePaul Scholarship

    Official page

    The Global DePaul Scholarship is DePaul University's merit-based award for incoming international freshmen, worth $12,000 to $32,000 per year. All international undergraduate applicants are automatically considered for this scholarship when they apply for admission -- no separate application is required. The award amount is determined based on high school GPA and is communicated in the student's admission letter. It is renewable for up to four consecutive years (12 quarters) of undergraduate study, provided the recipient maintains good academic standing, enrolls full-time each quarter, and completes a minimum of 36 quarter hours during Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters. Because this scholarship is explicitly aimed at "all international students" applying to DePaul as freshmen, it is directly open to international undergraduates.
