The Advanced Carpentry Certificate of Achievement is designed to instruct students with hands on building skills and provide participation in all phases of the construction process, including traditional and new building technologies such as high performance building, sustainability and advanced manufacturing of homes. Carpentry students build new houses and/or remodel existing homes. Carpentry students can apply the Advanced Carpentry certificate to the Carpentry A.S degree as a portion of work experience needed when applying for a contractor’s license or gain specific skills for home improvement.

  • Requirements

    Applicants must be an F1 International student with at least one semester remaining at Peralta. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, and must be in good academic standing. Applicants must attach a completed student education plan (SEP) showing their intent to earn an associates degree, complete a certificate program or transfer to a 4-yr university. Applicants must submit at least one letter of recommendation from a Peralta faculty person.

Alice S. M. Cheng-Jones Memorial Scholarship This scholarship is in honor of Ms. Alice S. M. Cheng-Jones who died of cancer in June 2011. She was an adjunct Accounting instructor in the Business and Economics Department at Laney College.

    Intended to be awarded to a Laney College Business student graduating with an AA this Spring with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and transferring as a junior to a 4-year college or university, entering into a Bachelor Degree program majoring in Accounting (Applicant must provide acceptance letter)

Follett Bookstore Scholarship

  • Requirements

    This scholarship is intended to be awarded to applicants who have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. The applicant's financial need and scholastic record will be taken into consideration. The review committee may choose to focus on particular areas of study or other criteria in deciding award.

Georgia Runge-Smith Memorial Scholarship Named in memory of Georgia Runge-Smith, a graduate of the California Community College system, this scholarship is a tribute to her commitment to youth and education.

    US$250 scholarship offered in the Spring

  • Requirements

    This scholarship is open to all students at the Peralta Colleges (Berkeley City College, College of Alameda, Laney College, Merritt College) regardless of program or major. Qualified students need to have a 2.5 GPA or greater, demonstrate financial need, and must have a goal of transferring to a four-year institution for further study.
