Study abroad at Midwestern State University

Founded in 1922, Midwestern State University (MSU Texas) is a nationally-recognized, public university located in Wichita Falls, Texas. Midwestern State University is in a city of around 100,000 residents and is within driving distance to both Dallas-Fort Worth and Oklahoma City.

The 255-acre campus features a brand new health sciences building (Centennial Hall), on-campus housing, numerous outdoor playing fields, and a shuttle service for students to get around campus and Wichita Falls. On campus there are a range of student clubs, events, and organizations to join and the University competes in the NCAA Division II Lone Star Conference.

Midwestern State is the only university in Texas to become a member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges (COPLAC). The University offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degrees within six colleges covering Business, Education, Fine Arts, Health Sciences and Human Services, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Science, Mathematics and Engineering.

Fees and funding

Midwestern State University prides itself on its affordability for all students choosing to invest in their future. Your tuition and fees entitle you to campus services such as free admission to athletic and fine arts events, access to the wellness center and renovated library, and use of the Mustang shuttle service.

At Midwestern State University, each graduate program is responsible for awarding scholarships to students in their program. International students are eligible to receive departmental scholarships and encouraged to apply for departmental funding to make the cost of attendance even more affordable. Additionally, international students are encouraged to apply for Graduate Assistantships.

Good Neighbor Program

  • Provide tuition assistance to students from nations of the Western Hemisphere (other than the United States of America or Cuba)
  • Encourage students to pursue higher education in the state of Texas and establish beneficial relationships between the state of Texas and the students’ home countries Requirements
  • Be a native-born citizen and resident of an eligible country (Argentina, Antigua & Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Bolivia, Brazil, Belize, Canada, Chile, Clipperton Island, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago, Uruguay, Venezuela)
  • Intend to return to the eligible country to live after completing the program of study;
  • Not be a dual citizen of an eligible country and the United States of America;
  • Have resided in the Western Hemisphere for at least five years;
  • Not be a member of the Communist Party;
  • Have met the basic scholastic and other admissions requirements of a participating institution;
  • Have filed a selective service statement of registration status and proof of status with their institution;
  • Be recommended for the exemption by a participating institution that the applicant currently attends or will attend; and
  • Be selected by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for exemption. Award Amount
  • The award exempts an eligible person from the payment of tuition for 12 months beginning with the fall term or semester.
  • Exemption from tuition is only for courses in which the institution receives formula funding (i.e., a course that does not depend solely on student tuition and fees to cover its costs).

Freshmen Scholarships

  • $3500 for Freshmen Scholar, SAT or ACT 1500/34 AND Top 5%
  • $2500 for Freshmen Distinction, SAT or ACT 1420/31 OR 6 to 10%
  • $2000 for Freshmen Excellence, SAT or ACT 1240/26 OR 11 to 15%
  • $1500 for Freshmen Outstanding, SAT or ACT 1160/24 OR 16 to 25%
  • $750 for Freshmen Achievement. SAT or ACT 1070/21 OR 26 to 35%
