Life as an international student
MSUB works tirelessly to ensure that every international student feels safe, welcome, and valued. The Office of International Studies (OIS) runs several support services, including one-to-one application advice, airport pick-up, health insurance guidance, and intensive English language programs.
The OIS oversees an innovative scheme called The Billings Friendship Families (BFF) Program. This is a cross-cultural exchange program where pupils and members of the local community come together to share their experiences and foster understanding.
Students also have access to a multicultural club, an international coffee hour, and an international food fair. International students are guaranteed student housing, and all campus eateries offer vegetarian and halal options.

MSU Billings Explore Montana Awards
In our on-going effort to keep the cost of education affordable, Montana State University Billings (MSU Billings) has created a scholarship award especially for non-resident freshman and transfer students pursuing their first undergraduate degree at MSU Billings beginning in the 2020-2021 academic year. Award amounts will vary from $500 to $10,000 per year and will be renewable.
The Office of International Studies Yellowstone Scholarship is a $1000/semester award proudly given to MSUB international students who are eligible, successfully complete the application process and selected.
Global Leadership Scholarship
The Office of International Studies Global Leadership Scholarship is an award proudly given to MSUB international students who are eligible, successfully complete the application process and are selected. This award will be given up to two students who fit one of the following preferences:
- 1 award given to a student in financial need
- 1 award given to student who further promotes the internationalization efforts at MSU Billings and the Billings community
