Renewable energy engineering degrees abroad
Renewable energy engineers use sustainable resources, like the wind, sun, and waves, to generate power. The work of renewable energy engineers is vital in today’s fight against climate change and global warming.
You’ll study a variety of renewable energy technologies, including biofuels, wind turbines, and solar panels, and learn how to measure and maximize their efficiency. You’ll develop a solid grounding in core engineering principles, as well as in applied mathematics and science.
Most countries are now trying to reduce their carbon emissions and meet international targets. Studying abroad is a great chance to see the renewable power generation methods of different nations in action and evaluate the effectiveness of government strategies.

Renewable energy engineering program structure
Most undergraduate degrees in renewable energy engineering are offered as three-year BEng programs. However, it’s possible to combine your bachelor’s and master’s education in an integrated MEng degree. MEng programs last a minimum of four years.
If the integrated MEng course isn’t for you, you can pursue a separate MSc after finishing your BEng. These usually take between one and two years to complete, depending on whether you’re a full or part-time student.
If you’re passionate about conducting cutting-edge research, you could enroll in a doctorate degree. PhDs generally take between four and six years of study.
You’ll encounter a wide variety of teaching methods, including lectures, seminars, workshops, and tutorials. You’ll also benefit from trips to renewable energy facilities where you’ll carry out fieldwork.
The content of your course will depend on where you study and the modules you select. But here are some core topics you’ll probably cover:
- Wave and tidal energy systems
- Solar and wind energy systems
- Thermodynamics and fluid mechanics
- Energy policies and law
- Mechanical principles
- Manufacturing principles
- Electrical and electronic principles
- Environmental impact assessment
