Behavioral Sciences program structure
Bachelor’s degrees in behavioral science last at least three years, but they’ll take four years if you complete an industry placement. Sandwich years are superb experiences because you can try out potential careers and network with experts in the field.
Bachelor’s degrees work a little differently in the US because most universities follow the four-year liberal arts model of education. Before majoring in behavioral science, you’ll attend two years of general education classes.
To qualify for many roles related to behavioral science, you’ll need to have postgraduate qualifications under your belt. Master’s and doctoral programs offer advanced instruction and research in the field and last up to two and six years respectively.
You’ll be taught through a combination of lectures, seminars, tutorials, and group workshops. Assessment methods vary depending on the modules you choose, but exams, essays, presentations, and practical case study analyses are likely to feature.
Below are some of the core units you’ll probably cover as part of your program:
- Making sense of society and culture
- The sociological imagination
- Cognitive psychology
- Developmental psychology
- Biological psychology
- Personality and individual differences
- Research methods in behavioral science
- Cognition and emotion
