Architectural Technology degrees abroad
Architectural technology programs arm students with the skills required to plan architectural design projects and carry them through to completion.
You’ll develop a detailed understanding of design principles and processes, as well as an impressive knowledge of construction methods, materials, and technologies. You’ll have the chance to apply what you’ve learned to real client briefs, and will be forced to consider the challenges faced by the sector, like sustainability, legislation, and efficiency.
Studying overseas is a priceless opportunity to see how architectural designs across the world have been influenced by culture, religion, climate, and geography. Learning about new architectural technologies and methods will transform you into a well-rounded professional who’s ready to lead a design team in any corner of the globe.

Architectural Technology program structure
Bachelor’s degrees in architectural technology are normally offered as three-year programs or four-year sandwich courses. Completing a placement in your third year is an unbeatable way to gather industry knowledge and hands-on experience.
In the US, undergraduate degrees work a little differently because they follow the liberal arts model. After completing two years of general education classes, you’ll choose to major in architectural technology for the remaining two years of your degree.
Students looking to extend their knowledge can pursue a postgraduate qualification. MSc programs can be studied over one or two years, with doctoral degrees adding a further four to six years on top.
Alongside attending lectures, seminars, and tutorials, you’ll spend a lot of time designing in the studio and participating in practical workshops. Most students will also hold meetings with clients and industry professionals, and visit construction sites to discuss design plans.
Due to the range of elective modules offered by each university, no two architectural technology programs look the same. However, most institutions make it mandatory for students to take classes in the following areas:
- Introduction to the built environment
- Construction materials
- Principles of technical design in architecture
- Construction technology and services
- Building information modeling
- Sustainable building principles
- Building economics and project management
- Architectural ethics and legislation
