What do computer science experts in USA say?

  • Dr Christine Bakke

    Dr Christine Bakke

University of Minnesota Crookston Computer Science Lecturer
    Dr Christine Bakke says

UMC offers many degrees, including computing degrees such as software engineering and information technology management. International students can study technology alongside many other complementary programs such as cybersecurity, graphic design, programming, finance, health management, international business, marketing, and many others.

The University of Minnesota Crookston is a great place for international students to prepare for a global marketplace that is running on technology.

We are located in the heartland of the United States, allowing students to learn advanced computing technologies such as software design and development, networking infrastructure, and cybersecurity while experiencing American culture.

Information technology management emphasizes learning technologies that will generate business value, such as programming, network planning, IT security, tech support, marketing, and project management.

Software engineering students focus on Agile software development as they learn the software development lifecycle through requirements, design, development and testing of software. Students will learn multiple programming languages as they learn best practices for developing software for industries such as business, the web, medical, health, and gaming.

Our students either continue on to graduate school or are employed in computing careers such as full-stack software developers, cybersecurity, IT management, web development, database, IoT / smart systems development, game development, software testing, data analytics, and more.

  • Dr Kenneth Rouse

    Dr Kenneth Rouse

    LeTourneau University Associate Professor
    Dr Kenneth Rouse says

Even though technology is getting to be very global the US still is setting the standard and it is to the advantage of international students to learn in the environment that has a great focus on new technology.

As such a global subject, the more international students are exposed to other cultures the better it is for them. I think that the US is a safe place for them to experience new cultures.

With a computer science degree you can pretty much go wherever you wish to find employment. There is a great demand all over the world and the pay is very good.

  • Dr Leann Christianson

    Dr Leann Christianson

California State University, East Bay Professor and Graduate Coordinator, MS Computer Science Program
    Dr Leann Christianson says

A core curriculum in computer science involves a blend of theory and practice, offers opportunities for problem-solving in many areas, and provides experience with a variety of computer languages and software packages.

A typical student’s experience includes programming through software engineering, hardware through operating systems, and can include data solutions, web design, networking, mobile computing, artificial intelligence, hardware design, and graphic implementations ranging from interface design to computer vision. The breadth of subject material is important as many students can expect to have a number of different job classifications throughout their careers.

Many believe that being a programmer means you will be working all by yourself in a cubicle. Nothing is further from the truth! Applications are built by many people. Employers are looking for those who can work easily with others and who have good communication skills.

Our mission, therefore, is to teach students the most important skills that are required by the industry, as well as prepare them for a diverse, multicultural workplace. Students graduating with a C.S. degree from Cal State East Bay are able to perform successfully on teams to accomplish a common goal and communicate computer science concepts effectively in written and oral form.

Cal State East Bay is ideally situated between San Francisco and Silicon Valley. There is a multitude of technical companies nearby including Apple, Amazon, Facebook, Google, Salesforce, Workday, etc.

Many of our students have done internships or graduated to work full time for these and other companies. Our department regularly gets email from companies hoping to recruit our students.

Companies hold information sessions on campus or at their worksite. There are also many opportunities to network with professionals outside of the campus at monthly free industry talks, tech meetups, job fairs, and conferences.

  • Joseph Colton

    Joseph Colton

Studying computer science in the USA gives students access to high-quality instruction and networking opportunities for future jobs.

Getting a degree in computer science makes it easier to get jobs and also get visa sponsors.

Generally, students who get degrees in computer science and understand the material are able to do well on paper interviews and potentially get in-person interviews and later job offers.

I studied Computer science. The course Structure is balanced and well thought of. The University doesn't force the students to students to study a lot of core subjects which gives us an opportunity to study the courses that we want to and develop and expertise in the domain that we'd like. I want to be a machine learning engineer/researcher and so it gives me an opportunity to study the related subjects. Some of the courses do have online lectures which aren't the best way to learn, so that's something which i didn't like, but they're mostly for the core courses, which is fine. The Auraria library is the best study resource that I've ever come across!! They have an online website where I have found e books for any book that I wanted to study and every research paper out there! It is a great help for students. Also, the library is amazing and a great place to study. The workload is slightly high for project based courses but it's fine as you get to learn a lot and build your skills.
