Study abroad at the University of Pretoria
The University of Pretoria (UP) is a research university set in the heart of South Africa. It’s one of the largest and most respected universities in the country, and has had the highest research output in the nation since 1996.
UP is made up of nine faculties, including South Africa’s only faculty of veterinary science, and Africa’s top faculty of law and business school. The University also has seven campuses, with its largest campus located in Hatfield, and smaller sites in Onderstepoort, Mamelodi, Prinshof, Groenkloof, Hillcrest and Illovo.
All campuses are well-maintained and environmentally sustainable with top-of-the-range facilities, infrastructure and services. There are student residences at most campuses, and there are also a host of private rental accommodation options available.

Life as an international student
International students are an important part of the University, and on average, the University of Pretoria has over 4,000 students from overseas arrive each year.
The International Cooperation Division (ISD) organize a special orientation program specifically for international students. This program is designed to help you integrate into the UP community, and also pass on important information about all the support services available on campus.
There are a number of professional departments that form the University’s support structure. They can offer help with psycho-social issues, logistics, finance, information and research management, academic application and enrollment.
Student societies organize fun events on a regular basis, so there is always something going on that you can get involved with. The University also offers some of South Africa’s top varsity sports and athletics at their stadiums and tracks.
