Study abroad at the University of Jyvaskyla

The University of Jyvaskyla is based in the Finnish city of Jyvaskyla. International students are able to study a number of programs in English at postgraduate level. There are many sports opportunities on the campus for its students, which is also a great way to get more involved in university life. There are also subject associations to become involved with.

The three campuses have many unique features including a science center, botanical gardens and a museum. The newest Mattilanniemi and Ylistönrinne campuses sit on the opposite banks of a lake, giving students plenty of green spaces to enjoy.

Life as an international student

The University of Jyvaskyla’s six faculties host around 15,000 students, of which 900 are international students from 100 countries around the world. New international students are first welcomed by a student tutor, who is there to help with practical issues and social aspects of student life.

The International Office facilitates the internationalization of education at the University, and supports students from overseas in a number of ways; one of these is the three day orientation program for new international students. It aims to help students get to know one another as well as find what they need at the University.

Fees and funding

JYU offers scholarships covering the cost of tuition fees for its most successful international master's degree students. Scholarships are applied for when applying for admission to the University and they are awarded to a select group of students based on academic merit demonstrated during the application process.

NO tuition for: EU students, EEA students, Switzerland students. Non-EU Students tuition from €8,000 - €12,000 depending on program.

Scholarships are granted based on the admission criteria of the program in question. Starting from 2020, in each Master's program the following scholarships are available for applications: 2 scholarships, which cover 100% of the tuition fee for two years 4 scholarships, which cover 50% of the tuition fee for two years Receiving the scholarship for the second academic year depends on your study progress during the first academic year. A minimum of 55 ECTS credits during the first academic is required in order to receive the scholarship also for the second year.
