"The Department of Biosystems Engineering offers an option in Ecological Engineering as part of the Bachelor of Biosystems Engineering degree. This option prepares students to solve environmental problems by applying engineering knowledge to natural ecological and biological systems. Ecological engineering combines basic and applied science from engineering, ecology, economics, and natural sciences to design, construct, and manage sustainable ecosystems that have value to both humans and the natural environment. The ecological engineering option is coordinated by the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering. Students should apply for admission to the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering and complete the Ecological Engineering option portion of the Pre-Biosystems Engineering program."

Undergraduate academic requirements

Applications to the bachelor’s degree programs are open to international students that are currently attending or graduated from high school. This diploma must be eligible to access further academic studies in the country where it has been obtained.

English proficiency

  • TOEFL iBT (Internet-Based Test): Score of 79
  • TOEFL (Computerized Test): Score of 213
  • TOEFL (Written Paper-Based Test): Score of 550
  • PTE: Score of 53
  • IELTS: Band score of 6.5 or higher

English proficiency waivers

International applicants whose first language is not English are required to demonstrate proficiency in the English Language. However, this requirement can be waived by one of the following criteria:

  • Have taken the equivalent of English 1100 and 1120 (English Composition I/II) at an accredited U.S. institution and earn a grade of “C” or better in both; OR
  • Graduate from a U.S. High School

Entry requirements

The ACT or the SAT is required of all freshman international applicants, as well as freshman transfer applicants with less than 30 semester credit hours. Arrangements should be made for the test results to be sent directly to the Office of Admission by the testing agency.

Competitive Merit Scholarship

First-year students accepted for admission by early February receive automatic consideration for this scholarships. A scholarship application is not required. Consideration is based on high school GPA and standardized test score. Actual awards are determined based on the number of qualified admitted students, the credentials of those applicants, and available funding.
