"The University of Portsmouth was one of the first institutions to respond to the rapid changes within health and social care by offering a Professional Doctorate in Health and Social Care Disciplines programme. This programme started in October 2000, and has been highly successful in its delivery to these professionals.

The Professional Doctorate is an alternative pathway to a doctorate qualification. It is a rigorous programme of advanced study and research, designed specifically to meet the needs of commerce, industry and professional groups and is the professionally oriented counterpart to the more theoretical PhD. It enables students to study a specific subject to the same depth as PhD students, but also allows them to apply learning to their professional practice.

This course is recognised internationally as a qualification granted to those who have reached the highest level of professional and academic achievement in their field of endeavour"

Fees and Funding

Vice Chancellor's Global Development Scholarship

For September 2020 entry onwards, eligible students will be able to receive the Vice Chancellor's Global Development Scholarship. This scholarship will take the form of a £1,600 fee reduction that will apply to your first year of study.

Chancellor's Global Academic Merit Scholarship

This scholarship will take the form of a £5,000 fee reduction that will apply to your first year of study. This scholarship is merit based and applicants would need to have met all their offer conditions by 1st June 2020 (for September 2020 entry).

All self-funding, full-time, on-campus students with annual fees over £14,300 pa from the following countries are eligble to apply for this scholarship in their first year of study: Bangladesh; Egypt; Ghana; India; Kenya; Malaysia; Morocco; Nigeria; Pakistan; Tanzania; Vietnam; Zimbabwe.

School of the Environment, Geography and Geosciences (SEGG) Scholarship If you're a self-funded international student, achieve a first or upper second (2:1) from your Bachelor's degree at the University of Portsmouth and accept an offer onto a Master's course before Monday 6th July 2020, you could get 50% off your course tuition fee with our Master's Scholarship.

Eligible programmes: MSc Engineering Geology; MSc Geological and Environmental Hazards; MSc Environmental Geology and Contamination; MSc Crisis and Disaster Management; MSc Geographical Information Systems; MSc Coastal and Marine Resource Management.

Faculty of Business and Law Postgraduate Scholarship

If you're a student from the European Union (EU) joining our Faculty of Business and Law on a full-time or part-time postgraduate course, you may be eligible for a 40% discount on your tuition fees. You can apply to be considered for the scholarship if:

You're fully self-funded
You have UK or EU nationality
You've been offered a place on a campus-based full or part-time 180 credit postgraduate course, excluding distance learning or 'top-up' courses
You've achieved, or are predicted to achieve, a 2:1 from your undergraduate degree, or have significant, relevant managerial or professional work experience
You haven't started your postgraduate course at the University of Portsmouth
You must apply for this scholarship before you start your course

Alumni Discount

Self-funding students who have previously studied an undergraduate course at the University of Portsmouth or at a collaborative institution and eligible for a 20% on most postgraduate courses, provided the course is not at a lower level than their highest qualification. Students who studied at Portsmouth under the Study Abroad programme are also eligible for the alumni discount.
