"The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is a course of supervised research and study that may be undertaken in a range of fields. Your research will lead to the submission of a thesis that makes a significant original contribution to knowledge. This contribution can be in the form of new knowledge or of significant and original adaptation, application and interpretation of existing knowledge. The course is governed by the course rules for masters degrees by research, which provides details regarding all aspects of admission, progression, submission and examination of the thesis.

Admissions requirements

Entry requirements are a guideline of the recommended academic and English language proficiency that CQUniversity expects you to have. Entry requirements vary among courses.

To apply for entry to CQUniversity programs, you must satisfy academic requirements and English language requirements. This ensures that you have the skills and knowledge to do well in the course.

English requirements

IELTS 6 (no score below 5.5) / TOEFL 75 (no score below 17) / PTE 54. Health courses and engineering may have a higher requirement.

Students from the US, New Zealand, South Africa, UK, and Canada do not need English requirements.

If students do not meet the English criteria they can study English on campus. For every .5 of a required level missing, they will need 10 weeks of English.

Entry requirements

Undergraduate programs

For certificates

Successful completion of Australian year 10 or equivalent.

For diplomas

Successful completion of Australian Year 12 or equivalent; or completion of AQF Certificate IV or equivalent.

For a bachelor's

Successful completion of the equivalent of Australian Year 12. An approved university foundation studies or formal Australian Certificate IV can also be taken to meet this entry requirement.

If you have successfully completed a certificate, diploma or advanced diploma (or equivalent) you may gain advanced standing into your CQUniversity program.

Postgraduate programs

Completion of a bachelor's degree with the equivalent to an Australian pass grade average in the final two terms, from a recognized higher education institution.

Intake and application deadline

Term 1 (March - June): deadline February 1 Term 2 (July - October): deadline June 1 Term 3 (October - February): deadline September 1

Applications may take longer to process for Latin American students. Allow six weeks before the program start date.

International Student Scholarship

The scholarship is available to all new international students wishing to study an undergraduate or postgraduate program at any campus at CQUniversity. If your application for the scholarship is successful, you will receive a 20 percent reduction of your tuition fees. Check if you meet the selection criteria.

International Student Scholarship – Regional

This scholarship is open to all new international students wishing to study an undergraduate or postgraduate course at one of CQUniversity’s regional campuses. Successful applicants will receive a 20 percent tuition fee reduction. Check if you meet the eligibility criteria.
