Admissions requirements

Each year, hundreds of students from countries around the world choose to make Vancouver Island their home away from home. Please see below, the requirements required in order to join them.

Undergraduate academic requirements

  • Be 18 years of age or older within the calendar year in which they are applying to study.
  • Applicant must have graduated from secondary school or equivalent
  • Consideration may be given to younger students who have completed high school and meet all other admission requirements.
  • Meet other academic and admission requirements for your chosen program.

Bachelor of Business Administration Requirements

  • C+ in one of Provincial English 12, English Studies 12, English First Peoples 12, NIC ENG-060, ENG-096, or ENG-098, or ESL-090; or English assessment; and
  • C+ in Foundations of Math 11 or NIC MAT-055; or C in one of Principles of Math 11, Pre-Calculus 11, Applications of Math 12, NIC MAT-053; or Math Assessment;
  • Or, CPA-CGA designation to enter CPA Bridging Pathway;
  • Or, CPA-CMA designation to enter CPA Bridging Pathway;
  • Or, permission of the department.

English requirements

  • TOEFL iBT: 80 (no section less than 10)
  • IELTS: 6.0 (no individual band less than 5.5)
  • CAEL: 60 (writing 60)
  • PTE Academic: 54 (no component less than 46)
  • Cambridge Assessment of English C1 Advanced: 174 (no sub-score less than 165)
  • Duolingo: 105 (re-test score within 3 weeks between each testing is NOT accepted)

English waivers

  • Graduates of recognized degree programs (3 or 4 years in length) from an accredited post-secondary institution where English was the medium of instruction, and English is an official language of the country
  • Student comes from native English country

Fees and funding

NIC Foundation administers several awards ranging from $100 to $3,000 each, totaling more than $290,000 in recognition of outstanding students. Financial awards are available for new and continuing students both internally and externally for new and continuing students. Most awards or scholarships are available after the first semester of study as they are dependent on competitive grades reflective of the student's academic achievement.

NIC offers entrance awards for applicants with high levels of English language proficiency. All applicants are automatically reviewed for this award, therefore no award application is required. Students in receipt of this award will be notified upon enrollment.

Fee information

  • Graduate tuition: from CAD$12,975 to CAD$14,825 per year

Funding

International Scholarships are for students from BC who have been accepted into an eligible study or work abroad program and have demonstrated extracurricular community involvement and strong academic standing.

One World International Scholarships

  • Amount: From CAD$2,000 to CAD$5,000
  • Requirements: Students participating in study, or work-abroad programs that are either experiential learning opportunities (language or cultural training), or that provide credits toward the BC academic credential they are working towards.

Premier’s International Scholarships

  • Amount: From CAD$$8,000 to CAD$12,000
  • Requirements: Scholarships for credential granting study abroad and are awarded to students demonstrating exceptional academic achievement and a clear sense of how a globally literate citizenry impacts our society.
