"The Associate in Arts in Elementary Teacher Education for Transfer (AA-T) degree meets the lower division course requirements necessary for the California State University (CSU) system.The Elementary Teacher Education program includes courses focused on the subject matter knowledge and competence needed to teach in the classroom. In pursuing the AA-T in Elementary Teacher Education, students acquire skills through early field work experience in community-based elementary schools. Students majoring in elementary teacher education develop critical thinking, problem solving, and written and verbal communication skills. As elementary teacher educationmajors, students have learning opportunities that are relevant to many types of careers working with children and parents including special education, elementary education, and social work.To be awarded the Associate in Arts in Elementary Teacher Education for Transfer degree, students must:Complete 60 semester units or 90 quarterunits which are eligible for transfer to the California State University, including both of the following:The Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or the CSU General Education – Breadth Requirements.A minimum of 18 semester units or 27 quarter units in a major or area of emphasis, as determined by the community college district.Obtain a minimum grade point average of 2.0.While a minimum of 2.0 is required for admission, some majors mayrequire a higher GPA. Please consult with a counselor for more information.Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADTs) also require that students mustearn a “C” or better in all courses required for the major or area of emphasis. A ‘P’ (Pass) grade is acceptable grade for courses in the major if the course is taken on a “pass/no pass” basis."
