In the Master’s programme in computer science you can become an expert in a wide range of fields. You will have access to the focus areas of research in computer science at the University of Helsinki: algorithms, networks, and software. You will gain lasting professional skills for specialist, design, or managerial posts in the corporate world, or for research and doctoral education, since the Master’s programme in computer science gives you proficiency for both independent working and multidisciplinary teamwork."

The application period to our international programs is in December every year.

Postgraduate academic requirements

  • Have completed a first-cycle (bachelor's or equivalent) degree

Please note that each Master’s programme has its own criteria on what studies you must have completed previously.

English proficiency

  • IELTS: 6.5 (no less than 6.0 in writing)
  • TOEFL: 92 (no less than 22 in writing)
  • TOEFL PBT: 580
  • CAE: Pass levels A, B or C
  • CPE: Pass levels A, B, C or level C1 certificate
  • PTE Academic: 62 (no less than 54 in communicative skills)

Fees and funding

The fees for the University of Helsinki master’s programs in English are €13,000, €15,000 and €18,000 per academic year, depending on the program. The fee for Bachelor's program in Science is €13,000 per academic year. In joint programs, the fees may differ from these.

Citizens of non-EU/EEA countries, who do not have a permanent residence status in Finland, are liable to pay these fees.

Scholarships are intended for excellent students from outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland who want to complete a master's program at the University of Helsinki.

Funding

International Scholarship Programme

Scholarships are intended for excellent students from outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland who want to complete a Master's programme at the University of Helsinki. Each degree programme may award scholarships covering either 50% or 100 % of the tuition fee. Tuition fees range from €13,000 to €18,000. Duration of the scholarship is two years. After the first study year, the progress of your studies will be checked and, depending on your progress, the scholarship will be continued.

  • Students are required to study full time (earn at least 55 ECTS per year)
  • You are eligible for the Master’s programme at the University of Helsinki.
  • You are liable for tuition fees; Citizens of non-EU/EEA countries who do not have permanent residence status in the Finland are liable for tuition fees.
  • You meet the requirements for obtaining an entry visa and residence permit for Finland.
  • You have obtained excellent results in your previous studies and can prove this in your application.

National Finland Scholarship Programme

Finland scholarships covers 100% tuition fee and also includes a 5000 € relocation grant. The scholarship and the 5000 EUR will be renewed for the second year of your studies in case you complete at least 55 credits during your first study year. University of Helsinki may award up to one Finland scholarship for a newly admitted student of each master’s degree programme.
