"Looking to develop your professional, analytical and management skills to an advanced level? Our MSc in Civil Engineering enables graduates and engineers to build on their knowledge and specialise on individual projects. The course offers enhanced specialist knowledge in civil engineering and critical insight into broad management issues relevant to engineering and construction.


The course is run by a team of research-active staff. It is supported by world-class experimental facilities, including the largest concrete slab testing rig in Europe, geotechnical and hydraulics laboratories, and one of the largest environmental chambers in the country. Our extensive state-of-the-art laboratories provide the best possible facilities for conducting master's level research into all our civil engineering disciplines.


This degree is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) comprising of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Structural Engineers, Institute of Highway Engineers, the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation and the Permanent Way Institution on behalf of the Engineering Council as meeting the academic requirement for Further Learning for registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng). To hold accredited qualifications for CEng registration, candidates must also hold a Bachelor (Hons) degree that has been accredited as partially meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng).

Admissions requirements

Postgraduate academic requirements

For entry to the Master's programs, you will need to have met the following:

  • Bachelor's degree with a UK 2:2 minimum average grade; or equivalent

Please note: For some courses, you will need to have studied relevant subjects at university to be eligible. The university's admissions team will determine this once you apply.

English requirements

  • IELTS: 6.0 (minimum 5.5 in each component)
  • Pearson Test of English: 51
  • TOEFL iBT: 72
  • European Baccalaureate:: Grade 6
  • Cambridge Advanced: C1 (169)

Please note: You’ll need higher scores for programs and/or subjects such as Architecture, Law, Midwifery, Nursing, Paramedic Science, Social Work, Primary Education and Early Years.

  • MPhil/PhD programs: The IELTS minimum requirement is 6.5 (and 6.5 minimum average grade in each component)

Fees and funding

For the majority of University of Greenwich programs, the fees for international students in the 2019-20 academic year are £13,000 per year for undergraduate courses and £13,500 - £14,500 per year for postgraduate taught courses.

Funding

The University of Greenwich offers a number of scholarships and bursaries to help students with the cost of their studies. Awards range from sports and high achievement scholarships to bursaries for care leavers and students in financial need.
