      Program Overview

      What American University of Beirut says about their program:
      "The Department of Arabic and Near Eastern Languages is steeped in the Arabic philological and literary tradition. Its faculty is also experienced in the use of contemporary western methods of teaching and approaches to language and literature. For this reason, the department is well-positioned to train future leaders in the field. Academic governance of the department complies with the practices and procedures currently applied by the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. The department seeks to augment its faculty as needed, mainly through exchange and visiting programs as well as through highly selective and rigorously defined recruitment."

      Admissions requirements

      ​​​​​​​​​The freshman program is a majorless year (2 regular terms) whereby the student can take different courses and follow either a scientific track or a track in humanities. Once the student completes the freshman year, he/she gets to enroll in a specific major at the sophomore level based on his/her average or GPA.

      Fees and funding

      All academically gifted students, regardless of their socio-economic background, should have access to AUB. Please note that your admissions status will not be jeopardized by applying for financial aid. AUB has a strong financial aid program to assist needy students in meeting the cost of their education.
